Hualien Trip Pictures are up!

Pictures from our Hualien trip is up! I can’t believe our highly anticipated trip to Hualien is already over! But I’m glad that everyone a great time, hanging out, eating together, getting wet and enjoying the beautiful Taroko scenery. Let’s do a quick review of the three-day tour.

After arriving in Hualien by Tze-Chiang Express, our trip started with our first dip in the water near the Shakadang trail, during which, thanks for the ever-scheming Chi, we made sure that Eugene and James were well watered before our intense hike. We then took a short rest stop at the scenic Bu Luo Wan.After a scrumptious meal, we had a time of sharing our baby pictures (and pictures with CC’s grandmother and Emperor Eugene) as well as our first FNP outside of Hsinchu. After that, we did our Myers-Briggs personality tests, and found some shocking similarities such as CC and Penny. Although ISTJs and ISFJs seem to dominate our group, we’re thankful for the other personalities, such as the ENFPs and the INFP healers, to keep our group interesting.

After starting off Day #2 with a time of studying the Bible, we visited some of the most breath-taking spots in Taroko such as Swallow Grotto and the Tunnel of Nine Turns. We then had sandwiches for lunch, as well as some impromptu post-lunch entertainment. Next we stopped at one of the most intriguing locations—the Water Curtain Cave. It was quite unusual to see mini-waterfalls right inside the caves, and we made sure that Chi had a close examination of the water. Our next stop was at the local night markets, where we filled up on the coffin bread that Kan highly recommended, had a shot at archery (though only Balduran was good enough to win anything), and witnessed the rifle competition between our US army and Taiwanese army representatives. We topped off the second day sharing about each of our life journeys, which was probably the most meaningful and memorable part of the trip.

We continued on the last day of our trip with some paddle-boating at Liyu Lake. We though that the chain-linked your ships was a tactic used only during the Three Kingdoms era, but apparently it can be used with paddle boats too, as some of the sisters painfully found out. Kan also decided to do a dive with Chi, but decided to bring Len along as well. :) We ended our trip with a BBQ and play American football at the windy Seven Star Beach.

What a packed trip we had! Many thanks to Kan for planning such a wonderful trip for us.

“Friday Night Plus” on Thursday Night

This week and next week’s Friday Night Plus will be moved to the Thursday night of each week (7/31 and 8/7), so please make a note of the time change. The location will remain the same as previous weeks, at Meichu. See you on Thursday!

UPDATE: The location for next week’s Friday Night Plus (8/7) will be at the NCTU International Conference Room, located in B1 of the Haoran library.

UPDATE 2: FNP will be back at Meichu tonight (8/7). Sorry for the last minute change!

Hualien Trip

For those of you going to Hualien, we are going to be sleeping over at Meichu on Wednesday night, because our train on Thursday leaves really early. The brothers will be sleeping over at Eugene and Cynthia’s house, and the sisters will be over at Kaitlyn and the other sisters’ place. Please come by around 9 PM or so on Wednesday.

Also, here is a packing list:

light jacket or sweatshirt
shorts
sandals
flashlight (if you have one)
sports shoes (hiking and sports)
personal toiletries
umbrella
sunscreen
water bottle

Okay, that’s it. The weather’s looking good (no more typhoon!), so it’s gonna be a great trip!

Austin Team has landed!

This past Wednesday, the firsts of our Austin team officially landed in Texas! Pastor Manny and his wife Sunny, and along with five others, moved in near University of Texas, Austin, and will be starting Koinonia UT Austin to minister to the students there. Please pray for they as they transition to life there that through them, many people will come closer to God!

Sorry, but due to the rain, our sports and BBQ will be moved to 6 PM tonight. The location will now be at the China Lutheran Seminary (No. 11, Lane 51, Ta Hsueh Road), see map. We will be playing some indoor group games. See you soon!

Berkeley Students Arrive!

This week, we will welcome the arrival of 36 friends from Berkeley! Since Berkeley has already let out for summer vacation, this time the team consists mostly of college students. We’ve prepared some English exchange events for the students here to get to know them and become friends. Hope everyone can make it!

Friday Night Plus: Special Talk
Daniel, one of the leaders for the Berkeley student team, will be giving a special talk on “Design in the Universe.” This is part two of our series on the relationship between science and Christianity. Like last week, we will be meeting at the NCTU International Conference Center (Haoran Library B1).

Sports and BBQ

Saturday at 3 PM, we will be having a sports and BBQ at the big lawn near the NTHU main gate! The highly anticipated Koinonia Chinese-Taipei vs. USA tournament has finally arrived!
