Taking a break from the flood of midterms we’ve been having, this past weekend the sophomore class journeyed to one of the wonders of the world, the absolutely BEAUTIFUL and breathtaking Yosemite!!!!!

Throughout the whole trip we found ourselves continuing to repeat “Whooaaaaa.” It was was a sense of just being struck down with AWESOMENESS to the point where we ran out of words to say and that was the only one that would come out.

Case in point #1: The Food. Whoaaa…

Steak. ‘Nuff said.

Here is wise old master Steve teaching his young grasshopper the ancient and mythical secrets of meat-grilling.

Yummy yum yum. A big, hearty “Thank you!” to everyone who worked so hard to plan and prepare our meals! We ate like kings!

Case in point #2: Yosemite House. Whhhhoooooooooaaaaaaa…..

Since we arrived, the house was always brimming with activity. From prepping late night brownies in the kitchen…

…to stuffing the living room and laughing together as we played games and told embarassing stories.

Even after just two nights it started to feel like home, and a bunch of us fondly dubbed it “Yo House.” We were so thankful to have this place to go and to create amazing memories…even those we’d rather forget, like when the girls lost the couch game. We want a rematch!

Final case: The Nature. WHHHOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
We hit the ground running as we conquered two hikes. The first, we called “Lord the Rings country.” Going out there made us all want to grab a sword and battle some orcs!

Seriously, Lord of the Rings, anyone? Now is the hour! Riders of Rohan! Oaths you have taken, now fulfill them all, to lord and land!

Raaaarrrhhhh!!

Waiting in anticipation to start the hike as we received safety instructions. Safety first!

Fellowship of the Koin Soph Bros.

Some of us got confused though and thought this was a scene from Sound of Music instead. “The hills are aliivvee…”

The second hike was aptly named “Peaceful River.” Here, we had a chance to quiet our hearts, read through Psalm 23, and pray a prayer of blessing for each other for the rest of the year.

Of course, we couldn’t pass up a gangsta photo while at the peaceful river. See what I mean? Struck down by AWESOMENESS.

Phew, this was a long post! But it really was a packed trip. All in all, we were so, so, so thankful for this opportunity to bond with each other and have fellowship in the midst of God’s amazing nature. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that we all had the time of our lives and a BLAST on this trip. Can’t wait until next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last week on Friday, the Freshmen and Juniors made a journey up north to San Rafael for Country Club Bowling! You can bet that everyone showed their best… “game faces”

Normal game faces:

Not so normal game faces:

Um. Yeah.

It was a lot of inter-class fun, along with celebrating every strike and spare.

The ultimate champions of the night were Smith (who bowled an incredible 180!) and Robin, the leader among the sisters with 148. But an honorable mention definitely goes to Isaac  and other “injured” players, who were not kept down despite crutches and bad backs.

Now that takes some serious next skill. Join us next time!

This past Saturday, the juniors hit Pacifica for a short-but-very-sweet time in the sun. Without exaggeration, it was the best beach weather I’ve ever experienced in Northern California! It was a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of school as we grilled, ate, chilled, ran around (and tackled each other) in the midst of God’s beautiful creation.

Wilson dominating in frisbee.

No one can stop Matt.

Hope you can all join us next time!

Last Friday we hosted our first large TFN, aka THE Friday Night! As if the evening couldn’t get any better, we had free boba and then headed over to Maxwell Field to engage in some slightly unorthodox, but very fun, sports. Some people might have mistakenly believed that the long and intense walk uphill all the way to Maxwell was the exercise itself, but boy oh boy, did we surprise everyone with the sports we played!

Two’s a crowd, three’s a mob, and 300 excited students pumped up to play handball, frisbee, and Braveheart gives you Koinonia!

Braveheart, an elegantly simple game where you try to throw a giant rubber ball at your opponent and get them out. Some say it is exactly like Dodgeball, except without any boundaries, making it that much better.

Our last event was a race of the fastest people of each class. Chariots of Fire, anyone?

Just the sophomore class. Hope this gives you an idea of how many people came out to Maxwell Field!

I hope everyone had fun de-stressing by playing the innovative and extremely entertaining sports at our Maxwell Field Night. For those who just couldn’t get enough, we have yet another Maxwell Field Night after our TFN 2 this coming Friday! Hope to see you there!

While some of us went home for the weekend, those who were still here took advantage of the sunny weather and nice looong weekend to have some fun in the sun. We went to Crown Beach in Alameda, played some sports, and enjoyed some freshly-grilled barbecue afterward. Mhmm, sausages and hamburgers! And we can’t forget our game of “Elves, Wizards, and Giants” and “Ultimate Ninja” afterward…It was definitely a sight to see with 5 ninjas going at once in different directions in one a huge circle!

We missed those of you who weren’t here…be sure to join us next time! :D

As we ended the first full week of school, we were all looking forward to two exciting events – Koinonia Welcome Night on Thursday and Game Night on Friday!

On Thursday, we gathered outside of 2050 VLSB on the lawn to eat a scrumptious dinner and broke up into smaller groups to get to know each other.

Afterward, we went inside and got to hear from Jenny, Lloyd, and Suzanne as they shared their different journeys with God.
