Mike & Joanna's Homegroup

Sisters Outing!

Earlier this semester, the sisters of our homegroup had a Dim Sum and Dessert outing! I wasn’t there myself (obviously), but from looking at their pictures, it sure seems like they had a great time!

A Homegroup of Preachers!

This past Friday we had the chance to hang out at Steve and Suzanne’s new place, and wow is it big! It was the perfect size for our homegroup, as we split up and prepared Bible studies for ourselves in small groups, and then had the opportunity to actually get up and preach it. I never knew our homegroup has so many preachers in it! Some of the issues we tackled were purity and brotherhood. Here’s some pictures:

Preach on, brother!

After our serious time, we had a fun time of games and shaved ice! We played Scattergories and Catchphrase. Here’s some more pictures:

For ‘things that jump’ and starting with ‘S’, the team that said (and emotionally defended) ‘Spanish Shrimp’:

Another jumping ‘S’: ‘Steve Suh’

Any ideas what word this is?

HGBS, MBPT, and Pictures!

This past Friday we had our very first Homegroup Bible Study! We had a cozy time packed into D-house, where we sang a couple of songs and listened to a challenging message by Ajith Fernando, followed by a short time of good discussion. Had a good time? Then make sure you come this week! We’ll be at Steve and Suzanne’s new place!

After that we had a fun time learning about each other through the now all-famous Meyer-Briggs Personality Test! Here’s some pictures:

VDOC and SNOW!

What a busy weekend! It all started with our Valentines Day of Compassion on Sunday! Instead of focusing on and feeling sorry for ourselves, we celebrated Valentines Day by visiting Oak Grove Convalescent Home in Oakland. We had a great time meeting the residents there, giving them gifts, hearing a message by Jacob, and having lots of singing and dancing. Here’s some pictures:

Here we’re making towel bunnies for the residents:

Practicing our dance moves:

On Sunday night, some of us went up early to Sierra Lodge to get ready for our Koinonia Snow Trip! We enjoyed the campfire and played some fun games:

The next day was essentially an all-day snow fight. Here’s some action shots:

And finally, the snowman building contest! Here’s the freshmen David and Goliath scene, representing their epic Capture the Flag victory earlier that day:

DHOCCB, KFNBS, LOVE, KSLST, and TP!

You should get some kind of prize if you can guess what all these acronyms stand for…

This past Friday we had a fun Dual Homegroup Outing to Country Club Bowl with HG John & Ellen! We had a great time of hanging out and throwing strikes and gutter balls. Some highlights were Isaac’s amazing score of 199 and Jacob’s even more amazing 100 point improvement between his first and second games (and yes, he was trying for both of the games). I also scored around 150 if you add all three games together. Here’s some pictures:

Make sure you make it to this week’s Koinonia Friday Night Bible Study on… Love. It’s going to be at 7:30 at 155 Dwinelle. Don’t miss out! You can also get the brand-new Koinonia Sweatshirts there for just $26 (or $23 for freshmen)! What a deal! Afterwards we’ll be prepping for our convalescent home visit on Sunday.

And finally, don’t forget to sign-up for our Koinonia Sierra Lodge Snow Trip! This is not something you will want to miss! And why is that, you ask? Well let me show you:

And finally finally, if any of you have ideas for a new game for this semester, leave a comment or email me! If you have a winning idea, we’ll give you a tasty prize!

WR and SWN!

Time sure flies by! Can you believe it’s the third week of school already?!

We recently had our Winter Retreat at Mount Hermon, led by Pastor Ed and Kelly. God really spoke to many of us through different messages and testimonies, and we also enjoyed a time of sharing from all of the directors. We related to Saul, Samson, the Rich Young Ruler, and Pilate, and we learned how it ultimately doesn’t matter how competent we are but how faithful we are. As a result, many of us made commitments to keep regular DT and prayer times each day. So for those of you who were there – don’t worry, it’s still not too late to sign up for DT groups!

Here’s some pictures:

We also recently had our Spring Welcome Night, followed by our homegroup hang-out time at Steve and Suzanne’s. We had a class Jenga battle and a guys vs. girls building challenge. Here’s some pictures:

ATCP, JCC, KBF, UCSD, UCR, Cam, Mexico – All in One!

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is making the most of their winter breaks!  For those of you who are still at home, here’s a glimpse of what’s been going on around here:

Followed by our Joyland Christmas Celebration:

Our trip down to Knotts Berry Farm:

Our UCSD and UCR Prayer Walks:

And that doesn’t even include the New Years Eve Service! Berkeley’s such a happening place!

Let’s also be faithful to pray for the Cambodia and Mexico Mission Teams!  There’s a lot of people from our homegroup on the Cambodia Trip, including Mike and many of our junior guys. Here’s a picture of the entire team:

That’s it for now! Hope everyone is as excited for the College Winter Retreat as I am! For those who haven’t heard, it’s January 22-24. It’s the spiritual highlight of the year for many of us, and it’s filled with a lot of good messages, prayer times, and bonding times. Don’t miss it! If you still want to go, please contact us or one of your staff ASAP!

Ice-skating and Guess Who Final Scores!

Hope everyone’s finals are going well!! Make sure you study hard!

For those who need a study break, here’s some pictures of our Ice-skating trip from last week:

Some of us were faster than others, but we all had a blast!

And for those who’ve been wondering, the Final Scores of the Guess Who game have been counted! First of all, I want to thank everyone who participated – we had over 44 different people submit guesses!

And now… our winners are Victoria and Tiffany who tied with 13 points apiece! Tied for second with 11 points was Grace, Sang-a, and Myra! This game was clearly dominated by the sisters of our group. Congratulations again to Victoria and Tiffany, you two win a great, fun, TBD surprise!

With that, one more good luck to everyone who’s studying for finals, and keep checking our blog for a new and exciting game next semester (hopefully one that will give the guys a better chance)!

And for those of you who couldn’t guess, the bottom picture from last week was our very own Jacob:

Guess Who FINALE!

Good job at TC everyone! Here’s some pictures:
“I have… soup…”
Nice smiles everyone!
You should all be studying, so this one is gonna be quick! Everyone seemed to guess all of last week’s, so we’ll just skip to this week:
Mystery person #1:
1.  I can’t make the Texas Longhorn sign correctly because my pinky fingers are unproportionally a lot shorter than the rest of my fingers.
2.  I have an unusual knack for creeping people out.
3.  What I try to say usually doesn’t come out the way I intended it to.
4.  I like watching mundane things happen, like brita filtering water.

Mystery person #2:

1.  When I was in elementary school, I lived by a rice paddy field, and so I used to catch frogs and grasshoppers with my friends. But I got terrified when my mom tried to eat the frogs that we caught one day.
2.  Again in elementary school, it snowed a lot in the winter and our school yard had a hill, so we got to ski during our PE class. We just skied down the hill, climbed up, and did that again and again.
3.  I have flexible joints, so I can hold my hands together and rotate it 360 degrees. I moved around a lot when I was young, and every time I gave introduction to my classmates, I would show them that trick..thinking it was funny.

Mystery person #3:

1.  I can’t burp.

2.  I can fall asleep, have a dream, and wake up in under 10 minutes.

3.  I once went through an entire semester without staying awake through a single lecture.

4.  I gained 15 lbs during welcome week my freshman year.

Mystery person #4:

1.  I love moderate weather…like California’s.

2.  Like the picture shows, I like to eat, but I am the type that can be content eating the same thing I enjoy over and over again.

3.  If there is something I like to do, it is imitating other people’s weird or unique antics.

Think you know who any of these people are? Well leave a comment with your guesses! This is the last week, so after finals we’ll count up all the points and announce our winners! And for those of you who don’t have a clue, don’t worry – we have an even better game planned for next semester!

Good luck with finals everyone!! Study hard!!

We're a UC Berkeley Christian Fellowship (Club). Many of us also attend Gracepoint Berkeley, where Pastor Ed and Kelly Kang lead the ministry. [More]

Heads Up!
