V-day at Oakland Springs

Got Love? Let’s share it! This past Valentine’s day, our HG had a privilege to visit Oakland Spring (formally known as Clinton Village) to share our love: not this love, but †THE LOVE†. After the special bible study on True Love last Friday, our HG came together to prepare for this very special day. We prepared some songs & dances, message and gifts for those who are often forgotten on Valentine’s day. On Sunday, right after the service, we headed to Oakland Spring, a nursing home we often visit whenever we have a chance.

Here is our professional level (or close to) dance team opening the program!

Rick shared from Luke 15, the Parable of the Lost Son. He talked about our broken relationship with God and how much God desires to restore this relationship. He shared of God’s true love demonstrated by the cross.

After the program, we had a chance to mingle with residents of Oakland Spring. Here are some pics from it. As we came out from our comfort zone, we experienced our heart warming up. We prepared a small plant as a gift for each and every one of them as the reminder of today. We hope to see those plant healthy and alive when we come back next time!

See you next time!!! :)

Koinonia Spring Welcome Night

Hi Everyone, Welcome back!

Hope you all had a restful winter break (for those of you we have not seen in a while). I am so excited to start a new semester together with a fresh start, a new chance to whip that GPA into shape and best of all a New Year to experience God together!

This past friday we started off the newsemester with our Koinonia Spring Welcome Night (woot)!!!

Bother Lem is joining us from Gracepoint Davis, before heading off to lead our church plant in SD, and not a minute too soon. I have to say, I was so challanged by the message he gave, he said that we all got to be “FAT!” …. if we want to grow.

But don’t Worry Chris it’s not what your thinking, you don’t need to gain a pound! What he means is we need to be Faithful, Available and Teachable this year so that God can speak to us through different messages, the bible and people too.

And now here are some quick highlights from Friday’s post spring welcome night!

After a long winter break we are all happy to go back to one of the upper class(wo)men’s apartment to play games, eat snacks and catch up with each other.

Those Sundaes were so good, almost as good as sunday……Worship Service =)

  See ya next week!

The Winter in Sierra!!!

It is finally January!!! We ALL have waited for this time! It is… it is…. THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW SEMESTER!

Well, I am sure you guys are excited for it, but there is another event that always comes around this time. YES, and I know you guys already know what it is. (Because it says on the title of this post :p) THE SNOW TRIP! Everyone is looking forward to this day!

For those of you who have never seen the snow in your life, you have to go! You will get to see a lot! Exciting!

I am sure you guys are all excited to see snow! We, the staff, are excited too!–excited to see students in the snow and put them in it! I mean… play with them in the snow :) (I still remember my freshman year, my small group leader John Ko just blew me into a pile of snow as soon as I got out from the car. :p)

We will have a lot of fun. We will send some brothers early on Sunday,

so that we may have a nice sled run ready. (Thanks in advance :) )

We might make some snow ….umm… creatures(?),

play some sports,

and do… things… like this?! (not sure what this is…)

Didn’t sign up yet? Sign up here. It’s on Mon, 1/18.

Oh, btw… I heard there are some bears near the area. Here is the bear safety video. Make sure you watch it before the trip.

Christmas Gift Exchange!

Christmas is almost here! And the finals won’t stop us from celebrating it all together! Take a short and sweet break from studying by joining us for the Christmas party on Wednesday @7:30-8:30. (Location TBA)

It is going to be a lot of fun–so fun that you guys will forget about the finals and you will plea with us to make the party longer. But sorry in advance, we will end it on time. :)

Here are some pics from the gift exchange in the year 2006! (which means seniors now were freshmen back then) See if you recognize anyone.

John was still in his 20’s back then.

We play a lot of fun mini games, too!

Ellen fights her way to get the gift she wants… (watch out.. she owns a black belt)

Arm wrestling… (Oh, my.. is he whom I think it is?!)

Josh (who is in Element now) impersonating a lion(?)

Looks fun? Maybe b/c it is FUN! Bring a $5~$10 gift. Be creative! Bring a funny, nice gift… but not thing too bad. :) See you there!

Thanksgiving Celebration

I am so thankful for thanksgiving celebration and for the chance for our homegroup to show off our dance moves in a way that expresses how thankful we are for all God has done this past year!

It was so much fun to be up on stage in front of all of our friends.

After that we had a Thanksgiving FEAST!!

Thats it for now, best of luck on your FINALS!!

Celebrating B-day in Brotherly Manner!

I am not sure how sisters celebrate their birthdays, but I don’t see any better way to celebrate a birthday than going to the HOT POT CITY! If you don’t know what it is, you are missing out! It’s an ALL-YOU-CAN EAT-MEAT BUFFET.

This past Wednesday, our freshmen Life group guys went out to celebrate Nick(11/08) and David(11/11)’s birthday. We left Berkeley at 9:40 pm, and got there at 10pm to take advantage of the happy hour! And sure we stayed there until it closed at 12am. We all ate well and were satisfied. :) (some were a little more than satisfied…)

We enjoyed the home-made cake by Sam. Too bad most of us were just too full to try it. :(

There was a different group of hungry brothers at the restaurant, so we had some meaty fellowship together.

So… the important question is… Whose birthday is coming up?!  I am definitely there!!!

Happy Birthday, Nick and David!!! Let’s do the same thing for your next birthday!!! :D

Recap of Lifegroups

Wow time sure does fly, it is hard to believe 2nd round midterms are upon us and it is almost time for thanksgiving! But do you ever find yourself wanting to take a timeout from the endless homeworks, projects, and midterms and reminisce about the good times we have had this year during frosh lifegroups? I know I do.

Although we started out like this not really knowing each other….

we quickly made friends while asking the tough questions in life about science, faith and God.

We celebrated William’s birthday together…

And when the Midterms rolled around we let off some steam at the driving range.

We’ve made lots of memories and it’s not over yet. Join us next time!

We're a UC Berkeley Christian Fellowship (Club). Many of us also attend Gracepoint Berkeley, where Pastor Ed and Kelly Kang lead the ministry. [More]

Heads Up!

Check out gracepoint devotions for the latest text and questions.  DT journals for the winter will be available on Sunday.

BROS – Dinner at 6pm – Asian Ghetto.  Although i like calling it Durant Square since not everything is Asian food =).
