Worldview Camp Recap

This past Thursday and Friday, the Juniors hosted a worldview camp at BT for the students in the 3 Strands college ministry. They took the arduous 6+ hour trip from the valley in order to get a taste of several topics including Does God Exist?, Mythbusters: The Bible, and even an evangelism workshop! It was an amazing time as we got to share some of the things that we learned from JP Moreland, Chuck Colson, and ATTR.

It was such a packed weekend, so let me break it down for you:

Everything started when they arrived at BT. We were so excited that we just mobbed them when they got in! They probably never got such an awesome and startling welcome and probably wont ever again unless they come up again! After their surprised faces calmed down, we got together, grabbed some bobas, and got to introduce ourselves with some alliteration. My favorite was “Jesus-loving Joe” :)

Afterwards, we went on campus tour led by our very own “Dazzling Denny” and “Descriptive David”.

Did you know that the Sproul fountain is named after a dog named Ludwig? …cause I didn’t. Most of the guys from 3 Strands were awed by our campus since they’ve never seen such a grand place. They were also pretty tired. I guess they haven’t walked around much, but then again you never need to walk in SoCal.

We covered most of campus beginning at the Sproul entrance and swept through the west and south sides of campus so we didn’t have to climb so many hills. After our campus tour, we went back to BT for some grub. Chicken, rice, and salad tastes so good when you’re hungry.

Then came some icebreakers led by Jacob and BryKai. They led us through some rounds of autograph bingo where we got to see some awesome talent including juggling, breakdancing, and freestyle rapping! The guys from the valley are full of talent!

Unfortunately, there were no pictures of any of their talent. This is not to say that they were bad! It’s just that we were so awed that we forgot to take pictures. Trust me. They were awesome.

Anyhow, we finally got to some content after several hours of having fun and eating with them. On Thursday, we began with a talk from Kevan and several testimonies. Then we had Kevin and Kenneth introduce the camp with “What is a Worldview?”.

They were the first student pair to present their topics and they were awesome. Their presentation packed a lot of punch and was very humorous. The students were fully engaged and were furiously writing down their notes.

After this presentation, we brought them to North Loop so that they could check it out and also meet Pastor Ed and Kelly. We also had shaved ice and games prepared. We played team line charades and it was so funny to see how the moves changed as they went down the line! Somehow a robber turned into a ballerina and a fireman turned into a dancer! Then there was a brother who turned a parachutist into a guy doing pushups (cough David J cough**).

As you can see, the games were pretty epic. Next time you have a game time, make sure that Team Line Charades is on the list. I personally guarantee that it will be fun and hilarious. After the games, they stayed in Alameda: brothers went with Ken and the sisters with Erin.

On Friday, we started the day off with some team time. Then the students arrived and we did our DTs together. Then we just went back to back with session after session with some breaks in between. I was impressed with the students. They were tired, but they were still engaged and lively during each session. Perhaps the candy helped out? Anyhow, each session was packed with information, discussion, and spirited students eager to learn.

Jenny gave a final session on evangelism where we got to see Evange-man! For those of you who don’t know who that is, just ask your staff. I’m sure they’re just going to break out laughing. At the end of all the sessions, we had boba and prayed with each of the students. Then we had to say goodbye so that we could go to YOSEMITE! We were so blessed by being given the privilege to host the students of 3 Strands! Anyways, I probably wrote a post longer than most of the essays you guys write, so I better stop writing. A post on the yosemite to come…as soon as the pictures are up. Yee boi!
