Prayer Walk at UCSD

Yesterday, about 70 of us gathered on the University of California, San Diego campus for a prayer walk, since we’ll be starting one of our three church plants for 2010 there!  We had representatives from each of our churches – Berkeley, Davis, SF, Austin, and some alums from Taiwan.

We also had representatives from Praxis, College, Element, Joyland, and even Joytown!  Here are a few of the younger ones among us (Kristen is hiding behind the statue), posing with Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss), for whom the altogether alien looking library (pictures, as well as informative video forthcoming – stay tuned!) is named.

We met up at the Price Center, which is one of the hangout spots for students.  There are places to eat, an awesome campus bookstore, and an area much like (but some say much nicer) than Sproul Plaza.  With campus maps and some Bible verses in hand, we spread across the campus to pray and to get a feel for the campus overall.

I walked around most of the campus during my prayer walk, including the Medical School area of the campus, so here is a picture.  How lovely, right?  Makes you want to apply to medical school there and help be a part of our soon-to-be-Gracepoint San Diego, right?

We then met in front of the engineering buildings to lift up prayers together.  As our DT passage was on John 4, we prayed for many divine encounters and spiritual conversations.  We prayed that the students of UCSD would be able to find the living water that would quench their soul-thirst.

Afterwards, we took a picture in front of the “Teddy Bear” because we heard that everyone who visits UCSD must do so.  (Please excuse the poor lighting – these pictures are from my phone!)

Here’s a slideshow of pictures from various people’s cameras:

I’m still working on putting together a very informative and exciting video, so stay tuned for that.  In the meanwhile, please continue to pray for our upcoming church plants in San Diego, Riverside, and Minnesota.  So excited for how God will work in 2010!

EDIT: Here is the video. It’s not as exciting as I had hoped, but I hope it’s still informative! [In case you're wondering, all that shaky camera stuff is 100% intentional. I've also taken the abrupt jump cut to a whole new level! :) ]
