The Weekly News: SF, Loneliness, Cal vs. USC party

These days, there’s plenty going on. 6-weeks into the semester and it feels like a lifetime already! Here’s the quick news around the block:

Friday, Oct 2

For dinner, all the girls are meeting at First Pres Courtyard at 6:15p, bring your own food. The Soph/Jr guys are meeting at Sun Hong Kong at 6:00p. The Frosh/Senior guys are meeting at Crossroads at 6:15p.

In the last of our Koinonia bible study series, Why Am I So Lonely?, Pastor Ed’s going to take on… you guessed it: Loneliness. That’s at 7:30p at First Pres, on the corner of Channing & Dana.

Afterwards, our whole homegroup’s going to San Francisco! We’ll hit up a big sculpture, run around on the field, and then get some shakes, burgers, and good eats. Make sure to bring a jacket and some tennis shoes!

Saturday, Oct 3

USC vs. Cal, 5:00p. There’s no way we’re not watching this one. We’re not going to mope around just because we didn’t get tickets. We’ve reserved the Willard Auditorium for both Koinonia and acts2fellowship, where we’re going to watch the game on a 20 foot screen in Hi-Def. But before that, starting at 3:30p, we’re playing 3-on-3 basketball for whoever’s interested in the Willard Gym. Very cool. Bring your game. Or at least bring your voice to yell at people and cheer others on. We’ll have food and drinks (good ol’ Costco pizza), so bring along $3 to help chip in.

Sunday, Oct 4

40 people are getting baptized this Sunday, including our own Steph C and Irene K. Let’s show our support and give glory to God together as we hear their stories and remember our own spiritual journeys! It’ll be a part of our Gracepoint Berkeley Sunday Service, 1:00p @ Willard Middle School.

In other news…

  • Our homegroup’s heading to Glen Brooks Terrace this Sunday, Oct 4, to bring a worship service and spend time with the elderly residents there. We’ll be there from 10:00a – 11:30a. We last went in June and had a wonderful time together and vowed to return! If you want to join us, let Kathy know.
  • Bowling last week for the freshmen was pretty ridiculous… ridiculously fun! There’s pictures online, but of more interest is our own Eddie C. putting his foot in his mouth.
  • Interhigh’s RISE was last Saturday. It was a rocking event as many of our college students participated. There’s plenty of pictures online, and because Isaiah K. already did all the work in writing up what happened, I’ll just point you to Isaiah’s recap. Oh yea, here’s a cool video:
  • The frosh discipleship guys had dinner at Steve & Suzanne’s. Cool. Good food. Prayed on the shoreline. Laughed at each other. Good times.

That’s it for now. That was plenty. See you guys soon.

This past week’s BBQin’ did not end with the Korean BBQ after NSWN. We had an awesome BBQ at Dana House this past Wednesday. We had juicy patties, smokin’ franks, and sizzlin’ Korean marinated beef, not to mention, a raffle, prizes, and a giant round of King Kong Shower. Don’t believe me? Check out the [...]

Night Market!!

Aug 26 | 4 Comments

If you didn’t come to Night Market this past Monday, you sure missed out on an amazing event! There were so many people coming from every corner of the campus (evident by the dorm teams) at Barrows Courtyard trying out the free Asian foods in a pseudo-Night Market style.  One sophomore came 30 minutes early [...]

FREE. FOOD. FUN. That’s what happened this past Sunday at Willard Middle School. We all had a good workout and had lots of [...]

Games!

Welcome week is notoriously boring, and we love remedying this age old problem! Last night Koinonia got together for a rousing time of games. We played Human Bingo – a game of bold claims! Words cannot describe all that happened, but suffice it to say many strong impressions were made…images that have [...]

This past Friday we had a cozy Bible Study starting with a great dinner and a walk to the ocean! Here’s some pictures: For our Bible study, Steve shared from Mark 12 about what it means to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We all took a moment to [...]

Weekend of Happiness

This past Sunday was also the senior’s epic Graduation Sunday! The seniors superbly sang a sweet and sure-to-honor-God song (I just used alliteration, for those engineers out there who might have been befuddled at the presence of so many “s”s). Photo courtesy of Mike Chen. For me, I was impacted by the growth of these seniors as they [...]

Congratulations Becky and Daniel! They got baptized a few weeks ago, but the pictures just came in! After last week’s Bible Study, we had our final Maxwell Field Night of the year, featuring some great class competition! The freshmen are improving fast, but couldn’t keep up with the mighty seniors, who were determined to end their [...]

Sierra Lodge Glory

May 5 | 6 Comments

The challenge: The guys must charge up the steep, soft hill, capture the sleds and ride down to glory. But the girls, frosh guys, and frosh bro staff are fiercely resisting them with snow projectiles. The result is some glorious fun.
