TUTORIAL: How to post with a picture
Jul 29, 2009
Learn how to post to your HG blog. Also, learn how to embed a picture into your post and ensure the right size thumbnail shows up correctly in our HG blogroll (which is sorted by recency). You can also watch the tutorial of “How to Post” if you’d like:
- Log
- Create a new post
- Type in my text
- Select the appropriate category on the right side: in this case, b/c I wanted this to show up on my Koinonia homepage, I selected “Home”. If I had wanted this post to show up on one of my HG blogs, then I would have selected one of the HG blogs. It’s possible to select both an HG category (e.g. dan-hannah) AND also select “Home” and the post will appear in both places.
- “I want to include a picture in the post.” Make sure your picture is uploaded and available on Flickr. We have a Gracepoint Koinonia Berkeley Flickr account, so if you need login/password to upload pictures, let me know. Or you can ask your HG’s official photographer.
- Find the picture you want to embed in your post on Flickr.
- Open the picture and then right-click and select “Copy Image Address”
- Back in WordPress, click on the “Add an Image” button just above the WYSIWYG editor.
- Click on the From URL tab
- Paste your image URL into the field.
- And then click on Insert Into Post.
- Next step is to make sure your post’s thumbnail shows up properly on the Koinonia homepage in the Recent Posts column. How you do this is go to the Custom Fields box, and select “thumbnail” under name.
- Then paste the same image URL into the “Value” field just to the right.
- IMPORTANT: insert an “_m” just before the “.jpg” at the end. The value should look something like this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3560/3616273604_2ec25a8799_m.jpg
- You’re done! Hit “Publish” blue button in the upper right!

This is an EXAMPLE post for Koinonia’s MAIN HOMEPAGE. We have text describing how wonderful and great our Magic Mountain trip was.
